Shita-Kiri Susume is about a man and his mean-spirited wife. The man feeds a sparrow everyday.

One day, he leaves and asks his wife to feed the sparrow. Instead of feeding it, she cuts out its tongue. Upon returning, the man finds the sparrow on top of a mountain and is offered the choice of one of two baskets.
