This is well-intentioned, so please don’t be mad with me. The correct spelling is Doppelgänger or Doppelgaenger.
I am a German, but I don’t know this folklore. The English Wikipedia articel doesn’t help me neither… maybe they mean something like the good / bad angel on the shoulder or the near-death experiences…
So for most Germans a Doppelgänger is just a double or look-alike of a person.
