Thanks T.T.K. Sorry for skimping on the description, I was trying to get all 5 of these up in the last half hour.
This applies to the other designs I have up as well. Wordy but I want to really explain what’s going on as it’s not that obvious at first glance.
This design is part of the evolution of my symmetrical studies, one of the drawbacks of the technique is that it’s a dead ahead view, and it makes the composition look dull and boring, no one likes to be stared at so I get it but it’s unavoidable. One possible solution was to combine a symmetrical design the face and mask portion you see, with a non symmetrical design, the hair and beard.
The second problem is that all the lines need to be connected in order to use the coloring technique of merging all the line work in illustrator and using it as a cookie cutter with a sheet of neutral gray as the dough. If there are any gaps the colors will bleed into other areas and that’s a bad thing. When done correctly it shaves a good two hours off the coloring part of the process so that’s a big plus.
Back to the design challenge, having all the lines connected makes it difficult to create the separation between design elements needed to not make it look like a total fuster cluck. The solution is to carefully subdivide the space into manageable sections with adjoining details, if you look carefully at the beard you will see the division by line thickness and level of details.
Weird..but beautiful ! ;-)
love love love

Thank you for the support guys. This contest has been so depressing, I have to get some new stuff out or I’m going to go nuts. sigh.
