the burger shirt is charming in how generic and broad it is (“hamburger”) whereas fallen’s shit is annoying in how cliched it all is while simultaneously being extremely self-congratulatory. None of Fallen’s shirts are original or interesting in any way and yet its all coated in this air of pretension which undermines it. What I like about this burgin shirt is that its unpretentious while being simultaneously unique – really, where can you get a shirt that just has an image of a hamburger with no commentary. there’s an interesting lack of irony of this shirt, a sincerity which is so needed
one of the problems with fallen’s shirts, and a lot of the less popular designs on this site is that they go for that busy heavily stylized look which in theory (and in preview images) looks really cool but in real life looks like something you can buy at kmart – you wear that shit and nobody thinks “wow what a cool shirt” they just look through it. They don’t care that the design with the thousands of interlocking concentric circles was slaved over by a designer for hours, they just see a dude in a shirt. The problem with this busy style is that while it shows a great deal of technical skill, its become ubiquitous.
Wheras this shirt, its appeal is how singular it is. Hamburger. There’s nothing else there. Hamburger. right over the chest, no subtlety, no hidden levels of ironic bullshit, just a hamburger. You like hamburgers? there, there’s a shirt for you. If the purpose of art is, as shklovsky put it,. to impart the familiar with the quality of the unfamiliar to wake people up from the dream state of ordinary life, then this burgershirt, more than anything on fallen’s account, or like 90% of the shirts on this site, is art. The same way dada or pop art is art. and that is pretty freaking compelling, donks!

Here’s the thing, fallen_ph. Judging from your design, you like to follow the same mantra the new trilogy of Star Wars followed: That is, if you’re looking at something and there is tons of shit going on it, then it’s good.
Which is completely flawed. People don’t appreciate how busy something looks or how crowded it is with stuff, they appreciate meaning. Believe it or not, this design has a lot more meaning behind it by just being a burger than all of your shirt designs combined.
VVV I’ll agree, the design isn’t perfect. The placement of the design is a little awkward, and the design itself is a bit odd in of itself. But the point is that it’s simplicity makes it better than 90% of the designs on this website. The detractors fault it for it’s simplicity and in doing so, miss the entire point of shirt designs.
And I’m sorry, but I don’t know a lot of people except those with very poor tastes buying any shirt with busy designs like fallen_ph’s.
Speaking truth there aren’t many designed shirt (printed or not) I’d actually buy and wear from this site. There is awesome pieces of art, I’d put them as a wallpaper or a poster but I’d never wear it. I like simpler designs.
But in my pov, I wouldn’t buy that burger either lol

Sidoneon – given that the site has the description of “Cool T-shirt graphic designs everyday on high quality T-shirts created and voted on by the public.” I would think that a winner of a design contest vote would be printed. Why have a voting system otherwise?

To those individuals who continue to come back over, & over again while saying I’m outta here, & that’s my two cents worth. Showing an image of a person puking, continue to berate the design & designer because of his vote total you must realize that you are only bringing more individuals & other designers to see what all the fuss is about. When the film “The DaVinci Code” was released it created a firestorm from religious groups from around the world, but because of the commotion the film drew even more customers to the theaters to see why there were so many people who were arguing about the films content & message.
Therefore, in this particular situation you must understand that the more you complain it only brings more curiosity from others, whether new or older designers & it only adds more votes to the total. DBH will analyze the design closely & make their decisions based on their own merits. Leave it at that & let those who make the decisions make them. I did vote for this shirt, I think it’s simplicity is what has drawn so many folks to cast their ballot in favor of it, I do hope it is printed & I would purchase one or more of them for gifts to people. I appreciate art such as this, & wear it anywhere I may go. I would be more than happy to wear mine just as much as others believe they would wear theirs. I will wait patiently to buy mine if it is approved, & from the feedback on this forum I think that is a good possibility. Keep up the good work Chip, will be interesting to see what you will present for viewing in the future.
I find this to be an inspiring design — simple, yet it speaks of the excesses of western culture. It has enamored my mind, soul, and stomach. Indeed, it is a shirt I would not feel embarrassed to wear, thus swiftly placing it among the top echelons of this site.
