Become something I'm not

This is a sharpie pen drawing in metarealism style (thus the transition to the metamorphosis theme—although that title was already taken— witty I know, lol);

the idea behind the drawing is a butterfly that wishes to harness its power of morphing so that it can become what it really wants to be: a bird of paradise (and therein lies the rub, as the butterfly only gets one chance to change, I think, although I’ve been working on these drawing a lot lately so my head is pretty scrambled at this point).

I just started drawing (usually I just start with a spiral somewhere on the page) and decided to morph the butterfly’s upper wings into details that slightly resemble birds’ heads but remain ambiguous at the same time.

The rest of the lines just grew from there, trying to grasp a feeling of changing or of a vast amount of energy/heat (thinking of something like a phoenix)…

I know, I’m a windbag, but I hope you enjoy…

btw, not sure if trying to squeeze 4 different variations on the same mock is smart (although I’ve never claimed to be that, lol) but I really do enjoy all 4 of them (albeit I do have my favorite); I’ll post some larger format images on the submission page (assuming it’s accepted) to give some more detailed viewing of the various line-workings and design variations…
