This design was created based on a short film I am doing post production on. The film is about a man who sees the ghost of his father two years after he was killed in a car accident, and now questions what is real and what isn’t. I thought it would be a fitting illustration to have the man standing in the graveyard, alone, trying to deal with what he saw.
This design is completely hand drawn and painted in Photoshop, with a grungy rough look to help illustrate the emotion of the piece. Can be printed on silver shirt, or made as a discharge on black (same result).

Thanks OmarO. Send your friends my way… this design needs more than one vote. If it doesn’t get more votes, I might cry.
I think it’s a pretty nice design, it has a fair amount of depth, but I just can’t help but feel that it’s missing something. I think it has something to do with the large tombstone that the guy is standing behind. It looks too blank. Perhaps also, I can’t really tell if it’s night or day. The design could use a bit more “atmosphere”. Maybe some thin clouds with a moon trying to shine through behind them. Good design, has potential.
I appreciate the comments Snowy, even if I do respectfully disagree. The large tombstone was deliberately left very blank to help draw the eye directly above to the man. I also deliberately created the work to be ambiguous about day or night as I felt it added to the intrigue of the piece. Finally, with the direction of the shadows, it would not be possible to show the sun or moon (it’s coming from behind the viewer, therefore not in frame). Now… while I disagree with your specific suggestions, I do think the “flat” ground may contribute to what you feel might be “missing”. If the grey ground had more texture, that might help fill in the piece and add more depth.
I always try to balance the weight of a piece with more open space. I personally feel there are far too many shirts that are “over designed”, with way too much going on. I like negative space, and open areas, and I always make sure not to be too heavy handed with my artwork. That’s why there are no clouds or intricate work in the upper part of the shirt… just an “openness”. The artwork is deliberately dark, sketchy and “grungy” at the bottom to mirror the dark graveyard and subject matter, but gradually becomes cleaner, softer and more open at the top, to give a sense of hope. That’s just my personal style, so that will not change.
Thanks again for the comments.
Nice!
