About the Artist

Human_thumbnail_unknown

benharman has 0 designs in the running.

I must credit Siggi Eggertsson as my inspiration for this one. I like his style and I wanted to try something like it.

And no, I don’t think you can have too many lion shirts.

This is pretty dope. I like the pixelated look, and the colors are nice too. I declare this a must print and I’m pretty influential here (in my own mind at least), so congratulations on your second win! +1

Human_thumbnail_unknown
said 6 months ago

Did Siggi do a tigershirt? Got a link?

said 6 months ago

Well he didnt really rip him off did he? just completely copied him.

Since when are tigers = lions?

Its not like he didnt say Siggi was his inspiration, he did, so credit to him.

@ceddyishman – lame excuses! it´s a shame. he could send it to siggi or whatever, but not trying to make money with it or getting attention with other artists ideas. naawww… i don´t get things like that.

Hmmm…

Well, I’m glad that people are mad at me for “ripping off” Siggi Eggertsson. It shows that there is a genuine respect for creativity. I think it’s a relevant discussion.

But NWAY, before you throw words like “lame” and “shame” around, maybe you should take a look at your own designs:

Are you trying to tell me you didn’t copy the Rolling Stones’ exact logo? You’re living in a pretty large glass house, my friend.

But I don’t want to turn this into an argument. Just defending myself. There’s a big difference between copying a style (which I did) and copying an image (Rolling Stones logo).

Call me a hack if you want. You make a good argument. But please don’t imply that I’m a liar, sveinn, when you say “you must be joking”. I think I was pretty upfront on this one.

Yeah, I confess. I saw Siggi’s work and said, “I want to try that.” And I did.

By the way, Siggi also did a sweet polar bear:

But the doberman is my favorite.

NWAY got wrecked, loved the glass house comment lol.

I also recall a similar t shirt, the one with the pink floyd album art which was also used in a similar way a few months back…

but how many times did someone redesigned that stupid rolling stones logo? and don´t you think, i used it exactly because of that? because it´s the most known tongue in the music business? same for pink floyd. or that i love NY thing. it´s a brand and i used its popularity, not the style. it´s a persiflage.
i understand getting inspired by siggi´s work, he´s brilliant. but there is a difference between getting inspired and copy someones style. but if you´re okay with that, than fine. hopefully it wins. :P

No hard feelings, NWAY. I respect anyone that pulls out words like “persiflage”.

You make a good argument.

This design makes me happy. I think you did a great job using Siggi’s style and I’m glad you tried. +1

Human_thumbnail_unknown

I’ve got your persiflage right here: NWAY’s explanation why he directly copied a known logo is lame.

Honestly, it’s fine to copy Siggi’s style. Just keep it to yourself. Keep it in your notebook, or in a folder on your computer. Copying designers can sometimes be good practice. But seriously, don’t make it public, and definitely don’t enter it in contests or try to use it to your benefit in any way.

The difference between using the Rolling Stones logo and this is, the average joe on the street has no clue who Siggi Eggertsson is, yet, you can ask a street child in a third world country what that tongue is, and there’s an okay chance that even they might say “Rolling Stones”. Obviously she wasn’t trying to pass off the tongue design as her own.

According to the AIGA’s guidebook (standards of professional practice), a style cannot be copyrighted.

Using the mouth logo is fine in certain situations. It’s part of the American design vernacular (or is it British?)

But do you really think Mick Jagger wants to see his logo on a Lil Wayne tshirt?

I’m not condemning the use of the mouth logo. But the line is fine, my friends, on all of this.

Human_thumbnail_unknown
said 6 months ago

I don’t know if Mick Jagger wants to see his logo on a Lil Wayne shirt, however, I do know that Siggi isn’t pleased with this design.

Human_thumbnail_unknown

Ben, your shirt rocks. To put the Rolling Stones logo on any shirt that isn’t authorized by the Rolling Stones is wrong. You got my vote. Keep ’em coming. I love your designs!

In my opinion I do not think that is a copy, I think you used as inspiration an artist you like and create their own art …. I liked the result, but you could have used something more, something that set your style, you know? I’m just making a constructive criticism …. So +1.

All the best for u!!

to me, it’s not a copy.
it’s just a design with a similar style to siggi’s geometrical based works.

if this is a copy then does it mean somebody doing a design that has a “sketchy” illustration is copying thousands of other people?
