eh. It’s been done a few times on this site. Not really diggin the originality of it. left design is good though.
Ok, there are some positives to this – I love Hokusai because of the use of the Golden Ratio, and I think the wrap-around concept + diff fabric styles works. Outside of that, all you’ve done is cut/pasted this work onto a shirt. Really? It would be one thing if this were your original work, but this is ridiculous. I believe in people being able to REuse work – but put some more effort into this. I think you’re more talented than this and will prosper by bringing your own work and ideas to the table.
true, it is Hokusai’s print on a shirt. But that is what i wanted. Where can you get Hokusai’s print on a shirt? No where! So i made it myself! And I didn’t just copy and paste, it took mad hours to vectorize everything!
I agree with Kaizenick. Great job turning it into a vector. But it’s not “inspired” by Hokusai, it’s a direct tracing. If this was being sold in a museum gift shop, with proper permission, go for it. I think it would show more thought if you tried your own ukiyo-e style illustration. It is a stunning image, but I just can’t vote for it. Sorry..
I just want a shirt with a Hokusai print on it. How is that too hard to understand!
I like the looks of it. Its simple and stylish and there’s no skulls in it. I’m tired of skulls and death themes. A wave is just as relevant to life and humans as anything I can think of; who cares who the originator was, though a very good [Hokusai?]; you rendered it into a tee shirt design. Now it can be worn. Got my vote.
yeah, is hokusai going to get royalties? cuz i think he should. . . watch out, he might lightening strike you from the netherworld.
like this one more…nice waves..+1 from me,
do vote for my design ‘SeahorseFlight’
i agree with Kaizenick and youdrewdesign. sure, great job on the painstaking vectorizing, etc. but this isn’t “inspired by” Hokusai’s print or even derivative. it’s straight up plagiarism for the sake of wanting someone else’s art on a shirt because it’s unavailable elsewhere. museum gift shop item alot of people might like to buy? sure. legit DBH submission and potential shirt of the day/week/month? sorry, i have to say no.
Ok you were not inspired you copied it identically. You should be ASHAMED SON!!!!!
Just to point something out: I’m all in favor of creative expression, and have always believed in being original in using art as a way of expressing an idea… if dcdesigns had used a Manga-styled surfer (that s/he drew) on the Hokusai waves, that may be different. I actually own a journal book from Borders with Hokusai on it – because I myself love the piece. But at the end of the day creativity and originality and PRIDE amongst artists has to win out – otherwise we’re not better than museum gift shops that copy/paste others’ designs onto postcards, tshirts, etc.
And finally: if you actually vectored out everything, then you have SERIOUS talent and attention to detail. I think anything you could produce with that amount of skill (out of originality) would be worth wearing. Challenge yourself, and TRUST yourself – cause you have the talent.
Kaizenick you are a hater lol!
