wow man, this is sooooooo easily the best on you’ve subbed so far. This is great! really, stick with this style, i like it a lot
I love the way you use clip-art. Maybe it will one day inspire you to draw something of your own. Congratulations.
BlackOliver that’s a pretty ignorant statement, I mean just because your designs look like wallpaper and a rip off of halo red and blue you got to hate. Perhaps you should look at his other 23 designs, all of which I have to say are way more creative than yours.
I’m excited that this got printed, because it looks cool. I really don’t like the negativity that is starting to surge up around here. Why can’t this be an entirely supportive community? Everybody would benefit from it. Instead of ‘Your designs suck, never try to do anything again’, why can’t you give some constructive criticism? For example, ‘Your sense of composition is excellent, I hope to see some more designs from you using your own original art’ or something. Congratulations, dwgagner, on your first of what I expect to be many prints at DBH.
How is my statement ignorant ? Do you mean Ignorant as in lacking in knowledge or training ? Like i’m so stupid that i don’t realize that calling someone else’s hard work your own is not only morally acceptable but also justifies a reward ?
I’m with “blackoliver” on this one…There was nothing wrong with his first comment, in fact there WAS a congratulations thrown in there if I’m not mistaken. This being said, “blackoliver” is completely right. Why would any self-respecting artist want to display someone else’s work as their own? I personally think (on a general design level) that the “aged-antiqued-technical drawing-that appears to be silkscreened on parchment” has been overused and should never be resurrected again—no matter if it’s original work or not. That’s why Express can’t give away their t-shirts anymore. As for “Paranoia”, since when has quantity been held higher than quality? I don’t care how many pieces you pump out, when everyone knows some of those ideas should never have left Microsoft Paint. Is this criticism constructive enough for you? And if you’re going to start playing that “my friend’s art is better than yours…” you’d better put a “nah-nah-nah-poo-poo” at the end of it. Cheers.
Here is a photo of my design still attached to my sketchbook before I cleaned it in photoshop (I don’t use paint thanks), would appreciate it if you guys keep the criticism related to the design instead of personal attacks on each other.

I did borrow inspiration but who hasn’t? I mean is it just me or isn’t that optimus prime the transformer in the winning shirt next to mine? Just a thought.
Drew it myself, thanks for comparing it to clip art though, I’m flattered.
You seem to be missing the point. We’re not doubting the fact that at one point you sketched this. It’s weird how you have only 2 of 23 shirts in this style, one of which the artwork is known to be published aka not yours.
By you’re logic artists aren’t allowed to use more than one medium? So all my designs have to be sketches? I’ll have you know I sketch, I paint, I photograph, I draw freestyle in illustrator and photoshop, I use a multitude of different techniques and different mediums because I’ve been an “artist” my entire life.
By your logic all your designs should look like wallpaper.
I also write music, stories and poetry, I am not confined by one style or one technique. So please cease with the negative comments.
I totally agree to Mymil´s comment: “…I really don’t like the negativity that is starting to surge up around here. Why can’t this be an entirely supportive community?…” and please have a closer look to one of the most important movements in modern art of the 20th century: Dadaism. Great artists like Max Ernst for example did exactly the same: “cut and paste” …or take a look in the latest issue of IdN design magazine (Hongkong) to read more about the use of collage techniques in contemporary(!) illustration… This is one of my favourite shirts on designbyhümans!!!
Okay so I wrote a long post by hadn’t activated my account. Anyway.
It’s a nice shirt. You can view a copy of the original in the Air and Space Museum and a 3D model of it in an early flight exhibit there. I took a picture the last time I visited, which you can check out here: http://image59.webshots.com/559/3/58/97/2063358970100239468ndhRcO_ph.jpg
If you’re looking for something outdated and not nearly as nice looking, do a search for ‘la minerve’

I don’t know what the huff and puff is about, there’s a reason you call things retro styled, or vintage, or anything else. I might get one just because It reminds me of the area I live in.
Free museums every day of the week, not just a friday afternoon at the ny moma.
Quit being babies. Its not about who has the best art or where the inspiration comes from – dont like it? Dont vote for it. This was a CONTEST WINNER. Why do those dumb silk screened shirts at Target sell? Because people buy them.
Is it my style? No, but the people wanted it and made their voice heard. Think you can do better? Prove it. Either way, the man is getting paid and laughing all the way to the bank so take a seat, haters.
You know what bro, I owe you an apology. Regardless of whether I like it or not, Congrats. You do your art, I’ll do mine, and hopefully so will everyone else. a_mar_illo was right…this should be a supportive, positive, creative community…I was just eating up some negativity (by reading some previous comments) and was crapping out some of my own. For that, I ask for your forgiveness. Indeed, it is better when everyone dwells together in unity.
Cheers.
bifo_loco, that’s awesome of you. It takes a lot of strength to swallow one’s pride and apologize. This is a giant stride in the right direction for DBH becoming the ‘supportive, positive, creative community’ that it could and should be!
I think the square in the middle adds to this shirt…and I really really really like the theme. First and, so far, only shirt I’ve gotten from this site!
<3 it
Love the detail on this shirt, got it a few weeks ago and it’s my absolute favorite DBH design so far!

nice one :)
