Was made up of alot of stuff about Weezy…kids’ names, track titles, album titles, mom’s name….Baby….basically all stuff about Weezy….Took along time to finish…because I wanted to make most of the stuff in there pretty legible….enjoy…a few mistakes that might be noticeable on the sampleview have been fixed in the original design vector….enjoy!

thanks for the great comment GayK and JohnBackscrub! I’d like to say that all three works are different.. Thanks for saying I ripped off the grammy’s ad!…did you see my other typography work here that I did more than a year ago?! I guess, which does mean that I didn’t see that Evan Roth video either to create that Biggie portrait. Truth is, I thought one day…why not do a typography portrait containing my favorite jams by that artist…(I even wrote on my intro to that biggie design that I wanted to do other rap artist portraits in that same typography manner). I’m a “details” person…in that grammy’s ad 99 Problems and Can’t Knock the Hustle are JayZ joints?! Plus I really wanted most of the text in there to be LEGIBLE, those of us that can read, can appreciate that. Like I said I put thought behind placement of the words to make it READABLE and not just jumbled up text. This was not an easy project when you want the look that I wanted (READABLE TEXT, alot of different fonts and not jumbled together! but yet still getting the dark enough color and still a bit jumbled…) And not that I feel that I have to justify myself with ignorant comments from Illi or Seattle (with no attention to detail)… but here are pretty much all of the words that went into this typography…Weezy F. Baby, Young Money, Baby, Like Father, Like Son, Reginae, Dwayne Carter III, Holla At Me Baby, Make It Rain, I’m a Dboy, Lollipop, Tha Block Is Hot, 500 Degreez, Hollygrove, Sept. 27, 1982, 3 Peat, Beef, I’m Me, Cash Money Records, New Orleans, Louisiana, Earthquake, 17th Ward, You ain’t got nuthin, gangsta and pimps, Fireman, Stuntin’ Like My Daddy, Hustler Musik, on my own, hoes, f-ck you, Lovely, Receipt, Best Rapper Alive, Kush, Best Thing Yet, Go DJ, Hustlin, Shooter, Everything, only way, Hit em up, Grown Man, Spitter, hot revolver, prom queen, The Leak, Mrs. Officer, first place winner, 100 Million, A Milli, Dr. Carter (Rx..hehehe), Lights Out, War, Cita, Leather So Soft, drop it like it’s hot, F-ck Tha World, Shoot Me Down, Shine, Worry Me, Bling Bling, Winding on me, We Takin Over, Tie My Hands, Da Drought, Hot Boys, Oh No, Yes, look at me, the carter II, the carter III, Red Magic, Different Girls, comfortable, South Muzik, Mr. Carter, Way of Life, Louisianimal, got money, go hard, inside….and that should be about it…Thanks to my peoples that like the design and also the haters that kept the hating to themselves rather than promoting hate! peace!
Hmmm… I like the concept but the typefaces are all… “amateur” I guess would be the word. You can easily find 99% of these for free on dafont. Do you have the licensing to use all of these “custom” fonts you’ve downloaded? Most of them are free for personal use only. A contest rewarding $1,500 for an original design is not considered “personal use” last I checked.
Also, you should try and get the type to work without clipping any of the words. Personally, when I see a typography-based design that is ACTUALLY typography based (not just words filling up an image) it is much more impressive than something like this.
I’m not “hating” “dawg” I’m just giving you a few tips on how you can stay out of trouble and improve your design. Good luck, I guess. And I suggest you change your attitude towards constructive criticism.
that was at least constructive criticism…not mad at that, even though you are a hater (JK with a beard). don’t really care what you like though…I wasn’t thinking of your taste while I made this. Typography portraits…amateur…professional…you really don’t know what you’re talking about…we can talk again once you’ve done one of your own…….fonts were bought for a vinyl cutting business, have the original cds…so don’t think I have a legal problem, good assumption though.

I am concur completely with what ByelineWeb said… it is really an amateurish attempt at a type shirt.
Like he said, its not hard to put a bunch of random words and random fonts together and cut them out without a premade shape. What makes type art interesting is when you use the edges of letters (without cutting them) to define parts of your image. And here you haven’t done that. And then on top of that, the font’s are really obviously all the kind of cheap free fonts you get from online databases, so that detracts as well.
I really think this design could have been done much better and I’m sad to see it win the prize money for this contest. Although, I guess Lil’ Wayne had a say in what got printed, and I’m sure he probably doesn’t know anything about how any of this stuff is made, nor does he probably care. My guess is it was more of a “Ooh that looks cool! Look I’m on it…” type of approach. If DBH had they’re complete say, I’d be willing to bet this design would still be in the archives.
And sorry buddy, but the “You can’t make this!” doesn’t fly as a defense for why someone isn’t a good critic or something isn’t good art.
