About the Artist
the_jcw has 17 designs in the running. This is the 2nd winning design for the_jcw.
With a contest like this we need to make use of the awesome printing abilities involved at DBH.
Definitely an oversize print with placement either centered or to the side with wrap around and sleeve printing for both options.
-metallic inks for the scales
-waterbased inks for the watercolor background and slight red on the clouds.
-stitching for the blue wave pattern coming straight out its mouth.
-while we’re at it, why not an option of a slightly different run of UV ink for a nice nighttime glow.

I’d have to say that for your work on this one, it’s not as open as the others. What I mean by that is that normally you have a very open field that allows a whole lot of movement on the placement on the shirt, but this one is actually challenged by that. For instance, by putting it in the lower corner (the bottom option) you lose a lot of the extra detail that you’ve put into the design. If you off set the design (the middle option) then you create this double box feel on a shirt which I myself tried and can tell it doesn’t look good from my own experience. So because of the way the design is self contained (so to speak for lack of a better way of saying that) the only really good looking placement is straight on in the middle. BTW, this whole comment is JUST about placement, I thought I would give you another comment on the design itself separate.
I actually didn’t like the design when I first stared at it, but as the whole thing sunk in and as I reread the title I came to liking it more and more. It’s a very interesting, extremely creative concept that you’ve drawn out using a dragon or something like…. throwing up. I think one of my favorite aspects of the designs is the use of the firey colors on the dragons back. But even more so, I really like the way the clouds flow around the dragon in a very calming graphical way. I know that all of this sounds weird, but your design actually looks best with age to the eye, as in the longer I stare at it the more i like it. Unfortunately a whole lot of people might not see that right away, so if I were you I would post this somewhere and then post it again to see if that can lure in more people. As far as colors, I really like the original one (right one of the three) the best because of the variety and classical clashes. :)

this design is really neat ;D, Im really feeling the yellow tee and the color sceme chosen for it. The overall effect of all your designs always set a high standard, making it a little harder for the rest of us lol but the challenge is always cool. +

I like the play on fire and ice(or water) always a classic design. Though I think the black metallic design loses something. But in the white a definite must have shirt.

wowsers, this piece is really firing on all cylinders! Wonderful colors, placement, flow of styles and textures, uv ink AND glow in the dark??? Man, this is one shirt that can be a real eye-catcher at all times of the day and night…great stuff!

Original art – crisp, original style – great coloring – great placement – AWESOME. I personally like this right on front of the T, as long as it’s blown up _ VOTED.
Oh, by the way – the CONCEPT behind this Tshirt is really what makes it for me – it’s that you could write a whole Fable or Myth about how the Universe (or clouds) came to be… that’s what’s coolest (to me) about this piece.

Nice work. It’s a very interesting concept. But you should be more careful with your placement. In the two bottom options the dragon’s head could be cut off if raised your arms. As for the color i would chose the negative one (the one on the far left of the second page). I’m not much of a fan of the black and green one because the body of the dragon isn’t as illuminated as the head. You also can’t see the upper layer of clouds to well but that’s okay by me. The negative is just incredible. I love the flow of it. Good luck with getting this printed.
P.S. On your link the eye of the negative dragon is white. This may confuse some voters. I really hope the real color of the eye is black. Could you please clarify this for me and the other voters?

I love this dragon. I’m a chinese dragon myself, so I always look around for interesting dragon designs, and there’s not many (always clische thing). Yours is just awsome!

This is simply amazing. It’s too bad they didn’t do all the crazy stuff you mention (metallics, stitching, etc). That would have blown my mind. Maybe DBH should make a “limited edition” version with those options and sell for $35 instead. I’d pay it!
