@ Nescent & @sunny84india
I’ll attempt to answer your questions:
The designs you picked out from the voting pool use illustration done completely by the artist as the main area of the tee, if they have included photoshopped images from photographs in the background of cities then we would presume they have the rights to. If they win all images will be checked but cityscape pictures are common and many have no rights attached to them.
Using photography as reference is fine, tracing directly from a photograph is probably going to get you some heat from the art community because while it’s not against the rules completely it is very much frowned upon by professional artists.
This contest is about CREATIVITY and creatively using the logo is cool. The designs you highlighted as using logos are interesting; one has a pattern made of bats which would look cool printed. The other has very detailed artwork within and around the logo so it is interesting, the standard of that artwork is also very high.

Basically, avoid using photographs unless you know for certain you have the rights to use them. If you took the image yourself then obviously you have the rights to use it.
If you are using a logo, use it creatively or with very high quality illustration.

So I assume that you can’t upload 480×640 images, but nevertheless the are multiple pieces of artwork with such kind of resolution. Should we, you know, turn it clockwise or couterclockwise?

@ Nescent same is mine question too. please reply soon admin

Nescent Nescent Human from United States

I have a few questions of my own.

First off, wotto states that: “There are no images you can use, this is a contest to allow your interpretation of characters or Batman art not photoshop a pre-existing photograph. This is about illustration, concepts and well put together T-shirt design.” Now what counts as an illustration? Can I trace over a photograph with vectors? There are submitted entries such as “City of Silence” and “The Rivalry” that feature buildings that do not seem to be drawn from scratch, but seemed to be real photographs edited in some way (especially “The Rivalry” which features the Chrysler Building). Is the issue here that you should ONLY use photographs when they are our own?

Also wotto said that: ”Logo, Logo, Logo – WB do not need another logo tee, we are looking for something bold, different and not just a logo as the focal point.” Yet there are tees such as: TDKR: Last crash begins” with a large logo in the center, or “The Knight” which is essentially nothing but the logo in a pattern.

Essentially, if the design is strong on its own, can issues like a central logo and photoshoped images that we have the rights to be dismissed?

Forgive me if this is tl;dr worthy, but these are serious questions to me.

is there any style guide for this – we got dark knight logo – where we get the characters like bane and batman. or we use it from google and draw them? can n e one suggest this

@DCLawrenceUK the contest is world wide

DCLawrenceUK DCLawrenceUK Human from United Kingdom

Is this for US only, or available worldwide? I live in the UK, and the rules do not appear to limit by region… Thought I would ask before taking time to create.

When will the next batch of designs be up for vote?

7sixes 7sixes Artist from Minnesota, United States

Yeah, I kind of agree with Simz88. Should there be hidden amounts of votes for a big contest like this? I remember with the dbh 10k they would hide the votes with the finalists.

Sorool Sorool Artist from United States

Is it so hard to submit something that there are no new submissions on the page for 1 day?

wotto wotto Artist from CA, United States

@Simz88 The designs are ordered in the order that they were submitted, it is the fairest way. We have lots of experience with these contests and we know when designs are getting votes that are suspicious. We will access all designs equally and don’t worry if there is any funny business going on we’ll find it. The votes help but they do not determine the winners alone.

Simz88 Simz88 Artist from Italy

@wotto I think that if you show the number of votes of every t-shirt, the most voted one will have more votes than the one with less votes. It’s a psycological thing. The votes should be hided and the order of the t-shirt should be equal and random. This is just for an equality reason. I don’t know if i explained this concept right.

Questions answered:
Christopher Nolan will not see all the designs submitted, that would take a while. When you submit you have to pass two rounds of approvals (both DBH and WB) before your design makes voting.

Submissions – Two per artist – is clearly stated on the rules page.

Voting – First come first served is the policy. In previous contests we have seen designs come through on the last day and get more votes than the ones that came in first. It’s all about self promotion by artists. Votes will be considered when judging like all DBH contests but we also make the decision based on other factors such as, printability, market trends, needs of the customer and the awesome-ness of the design. Mr Nolan will also have final say in this one which is very exciting.

Age limit – This is because you must be 18 to accept the legal contract of the contest.

Why is there an age limit

LinkinNes LinkinNes Human from Germany

Isn’t it unfair that you can already vote for submissions? Just think about it. Will the votes affect the decision of the jury?
If so, someone who submits the shirt design in the last week he / she will never have the chance to get the votes one of the first got. Cause of the rules I thought it would start at April 14th, so everyone has the same chance.

“Between April 14, 2012 and April 22, 2012 (the “Contest Period”), all approved submissions will be posted the DBH Site. During the Contest Period, DBH Site users may vote a maximum of once per day by visiting the DBH Site and voting on a given Work.”

I thought C. Nolan will just pick up 3 of 5 voting winners

HenokGT HenokGT Human from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

okay, so we all get a equally fair chance, right? I just can’t see Chris Nolan going through hundreds of T-shirts for a nice design lol :)

7sixes 7sixes Artist from Minnesota, United States

@AmbitiousNomad I believe as many as you want to submit.

7sixes 7sixes Artist from Minnesota, United States

@RoyA Brushes in Photoshop are made with pixels just like images…if you try to increase their size they will become distorted as well. You just need to find brushes that are large enough…but be careful because if you are too reliant on brushes it can sometimes make the design look wayyyyyy too brushy. And make sure you have permission to use the brushes on a commercial design.

7sixes 7sixes Artist from Minnesota, United States

@afterburner987 I’m assuming so…it’s on their website.
