if you are using illustrator cs3 the live trace options will appear at the top of the screen when you place an image that you have scanned in.

it sounds as though you are also having trouble with the pen tool? is that correct?

if so do a search on youtube for pen tool tutorials that will help

you are welcome!!! just google painter x, i think you can try trial version from official site. it’s read files in psd format, so you can easy work on your project in painter x and photoshop!!!! try to get this program, i think you will be happy with it.

about your question…i do my all line work (drawing) in painter x. for me it’s works better than photoshop, plus you can rotate your workspace…i use bamboo tablet….
you have to practice, at start it feels like it really difficult to use tablet….if you have any questions, feel free to ask me…..
