Thanks for the reply. Any guidance would do me good, as I cannot find a starting point and would really like to submit something in the future. Maybe I should just play around with software to get good at it. I never used much photo shop in college, but just used it for editing, so I’m not very competent with it.

I’ve actually bought your tee shirt “self worth” because I just love the concept. Keep them coming man. Peace.

Mukid,

I’m happy to hear that you’re interested in submitting some of your own designs. I would say that Photoshop, rather than Illustrator, is more appropriate for hand drawing designs. I never took any courses; instead I spent a great deal of time figuring things out on my own. Since you took a class in college, I’d say that you’re probably in better shape than I am. Assuming that you’re familiar with the basics of photoshop, I can give you some pointers:
First, I strongly suggest that you get yourself a drawing tablet. This is the one I have:

It’ll probably take some getting used to drawing on the pad, but you’ll adapt to it. Next, I always make sure that I’m working with at least 300 dpi. The file size will be huge, but it answers your question about resolution requirements.

If you’re thinking of submitting a design that you have already drawn out on paper, probably the easiest thing to do would be to scan it and trace over the outline of the image in a separate layer using the drawing tablet in photoshop. Then you can delete the scan layer and add additional details in separate layers and make adjustments as you go along. Eventually, when you get better with using the tablet, you’ll be able to draw things free hand without tracing.

I hope I answered your questions. Let me know if you need any clarification, I’m happy to help. Good luck!

ryan
