I recevied a pen tool shirt, A shirt I thought the design was clever and would look nice. My question is this:
it came to me with smudged armpits and thin paint parts like it’d been folded while it was still wet. I sent a email and receved this in return.

Hi there,

Thanks for your email. The shirt was made using the latest and greatest printing techniques available. The smudges, streaks, and paint stains that make your tee unique will be on pretty much every shirt with a shoulder, neck or side seam hit such as this one. So, with that said exchanging the shirt you will most likely receive another shirt with the same results. If you would like to return the shirt for a refund please let me know.

so has anyone else who ordered this shirt had this happen to them?

Well not this shirt specifically, but yes I’ve got some with this same effect. I wouldn’t flip out over the arm pit or neck area, but if the front bothered you that much I’d say go for an exchange.

Happens with any allover print. Its caused by the ink bunching up over the seams of the shirt. There is very little that can be done to avoid stuff like that from happening.

well, now I know not to order an all over print with thick ink all over the seems. this white plastisol ink makes the shirt look like doodoo. shoulda been halftoned to thin out the ink on the end IMHO.

Halftoning wouldn’t have helped. Really the only way to avoid it (to my knowledge) is to use discharge ink, which wouldn’t be a really significant change and is a bit more expensive to use.

discharge ink would have had the same result, its impossible to do allover printing with out the distortions by the seams.

its not plastisol, its discharge. i have the same shirt, once you wash it its not thick feeling at all. the seams of all my all over shirts are distorted, which is part of the look of the shirt.

this distortion should only be happening by the seams, the armpits and neck and top of the shoulders. if its on the front of the print id return it cause it was an oops.

I have several all over prints, and they are all like that. Just wash it once or twice, and the heavy/sticky feeling goes away. Personally, I like the wrinkly look at the seams. It’s a real shirt made by real people, and each one has a few imperfections (due to the printing methods mentioned above).

Maybe just don’t order anymore all over prints?

i really like the shirt and usally Id return it .But this time I’ll try a wash and see if that makes me feel better, Heck I’ll even scrub behind the ears this time.

I believe once you wash it, you can’t return it. So make sure you like it first!
