Making of Monster of the year
This is a collabration between saltyshadow (http://www.designbyhumans.com/humans/detail/46522) and me “based on a Chinese mythology, about “Nian” ( which means “Year” in English ), a furious monster that lived in the ancient time. Nian was born to be very ugly and ferocious, which looked like either dragons or unicorns. It is believed that around the Spring Festival, the monster would come down from the sky to hunt people.”
Here we had kind of twisted the story to our version that the monster " Nian" had actually descended from the Sky like a shooting star. And the process of making that took us almost a month…
I hope you may find this interesting & apologies for my poor English … _
This is a sketch done by saltyshadow.
I did the Digital inking ( tracing whatever you called it , ha) and made a rough composition of hill , and village.
Saltyshadow added the color and placement. Ahhh~! We didn’t like it at all and we decided to twist the story and change the design.
We decided to make a universe of where the monster is coming from , instead of the village and hills from the original story ..
We are getting there but it still look kinda of empty..so i received the the file from shadow and added in more elements…
After which , i send the file from Stage 5 to Shadow again where she revised and finalized the design.
And we are done.
We also run through a lot of mocked up for this design. This is just some of the remaining files i had on my comp. Mocking up is a killer.
