The designs that were posted in the countdown thread were all awesome and I hope they get a chance to be printed.
Lets not get too angry about this please, its not a popularity contest, and yes alot of other designs had better linework, more details etc. but I cant help that they picked mine, no hating! lol

First of all let me congratulate you on your win for the QS contest. You dont need to “clarify” your self at the forum, it is not you or your design that gets the negative comments, it is only the people in charge of the election. They schould not specify such guidlines from the begining if they was expecting stuff as recently choosen for winners. All this, charity foundation-Tony Hawk-great cause blah-blah is now “pushed to a side”…this is what we complain about, that they come against their own quidelines while choosing the winners. If they was about just any quiksilver design, they schould not mantion the Foundation of Tony Hawk for the contest…they needed to say “any crazy style is wellcome”. If this contest was run under such quidelines, today everyone would support their decision!! The recent selected winners simply doesnt fit into the cause specified by QS Executives for this contest…thats all we complain about.
Oposite to what you say, this is extremely popularity contest, its all about reputation…not the 1500 bucks! So dont feel that people are negative about your art and i hope this contest can open a new future for you, so use it an a good way as such chances doesnt come every day…good luck

Well done mathiasrapp, I am definately buying this t-shirt. I really like the way the hand at the top symbolises a quiksilver logo. Way outta the box. And it looks so amazing on white. Also a huge congratz to all winners. Alot of effort all across the board.

indeed, i’m slightly disappointed by quiksilver’s picks.
guys, congrats on the win, even if i have to agree with most of the users in here..i’ve seen far more sick designs on dbh, and i don’t get why they indicated a “design a difference” guideline to finally keep a low profile by digging a “zombie&dinosaur” thing. no offense, i’m just trying to catch this brand way of thinking. in my humble opinion, however, 3rd place by csj89 deserves a lot. it really has that weird “je ne sais quoi” that would make me buy a shirt :)
in the meanwhile, good luck for the next contest to all we “losers” out there :))

Yeah, congrats. You won, it’s that simple. You filled the desire of the client and here you are, a winner. Forget the negative spiel. It’s a fickle world, and anyone in the design feild knows, client are usually the most fickle of the world.

They’re not really my stlye but I think QS knows what they’re doing for picking these. They know their market best. My only worry is that if these are DBH exclusive and noone buys them here then I’m not sure where they’re going to get the proceeds to donate to the Tony Hawk foundation. Anyway, I could be wrong because you’ll never know if the shirts will sell or not.

ok. my 2 cents. if its not a popularity contest then whats the point. the fewer the votes then the fewer the bucks for the foundation. If ppl dont like the designs that were chosen for the winning tee’s then its pointless to print them. We want quicksilver heart and It begins with me. That shit I will buy, the winning tees i will not. I like the 3rd place winners design but i still would not wear it. Maybe DBH will be the biggest winner of all since they will more than likely print the tees we like the most.
I still offer my congrats to the winners and would like to say we dont hate the player, we just hate that someone changes the rules to the game.

It might have to do with a) the number of colours, b) size of the print, c) how easy it is to screen print the design, d) inks required. and the fact that it was always about the TONY HAWK foundation, so i doubt them would have picked Surf related designs anyway. Cheer up guys I’m sure DBH will print the other designs, which are amazing.
I like #2 the best, congrats winning dudes!, and yup the QS design brief was misleading

dude anytime… you deserve that to be printed, although it would probably be a difficult print, especially if its an all over. but its so badass DBH will just have to find a way.
and they better make it available to women… even though its not a terribly feminine design.

Knew mine was outta the running when I saw some of the bad-ass designs I was up against. Congrats to the winners, must be a buzz to win one of these comps. To be honest they’re not really my cuppa tea and the Tony Hawks Foundation won’t be pulling any cash from my direction but I hope they do okay and look forward to seeing your winning designs on the streets soon.
To DBH:
I suggest you to up some finalist for your QS pick. Theres a BUNCH OF GREAT DESIGNS from the contest. Put up 5 or even 10 at least. =) and let people…the humans decide again.
i couldn’t guess that these designs will win… i saw a lot other concepts more likely to be found in a QS store.

It’s never been a “popularity” contest. Ever. DBH prints designs with 30 votes and designs with 300 votes. Quicksilver never even claimed to give a hoot about what the vote amounts were, where as DBH might take the votes into consideration. Also, the number of votes doesn’t equal the number of likely buyers. A lot of votes are just spam votes. Clearly DBH and Quicksilver know how to pick designs that will sell for their respective companies that fit a style that they want their companies to promote, so just let them do their thing. There’s a million ways to get your stuff printed and if you don’t feel like DBH is ever going to print your stuff for whatever reason, take it elsewhere. But if you want the DBH exposure, learn to work within their system, be patient, and keep thinking of new designs.
I don’t think DBH can’t be completely a popularity contest. What if there were bad designs that only got a lot of votes because of spam? What if there were awesome designs that didn’t get votes because they were overlooked? It’s unfair and fair at the same time…. In the end it comes down to the beauty of the design. QS just has weird taste. I personally wouldn’t wear any… Wonder if someone will actually buy this… My friends don’t like them either…
