To the ones that say “Awesome design +1, Please check out my design” and copy/paste it on every entry,

I notice who you are, and this behavior, although it might help you get votes, it is actually counter productive when the DBH Staff and I have to make a decision on what to print.

Just sayin, “Oh, that’s that guy who spams on everyone’s design…” doesn’t really help to put you in good light.

Having been an artist myself on the site, and still participating from time to time, I totally despise spamming comments. I will be ruthlessly vocal in rejecting a design when it comes down to choosing a design between a legitimate vote getter versus a spammer.

Cheers!

of course if that’s something they don’t want us to do, we shall not do it.
and people do have a pride, they are not telling people to vote on their design they are asking their opinion and if they like it, well then vote….good we got that cleared out.
does anyone know how do they choose the winners if they do not choose them based only on votes?

Would be nice then, Oddeti – if it was not “encouraged” so to speak on the sub page.

(from said page)

. Promote your design

Spread the word by letting friends and family know how talented you are!
4. How Are Winners Chosen?

Winners are chosen depending on many factors such as the number of votes the submission has received, the rate at which it has received the votes, where the votes are coming from, the comments on the submission, and where/from whom comments are coming from. If a submission is performing extremely well it will be chosen as a winner. Submissions that are chosen as one of our winning Shirts of the Day will then be eligible to be selected as a winning Shirt of the Week and/or Month. For more details on the contest and prizes go here. Fraud voting is tracked and will not be considered in the overall score of a design.

*fixed code error

If people don’t want to get spammed and call this spam – then DBH can revise the submission text so new people will know it’s considered spam instead of “shameless self promotion” ay?

Some go about their networking the wrong way, sure – but maybe if they saw it in the sub gl’s to begin with – it would curtail.

“to comment on their design after voting and asking them for their support, that’s not spam”-ernestojj23

this is something you shouldn’t do either.

you are probably right, I should trust that all the great designers in this webpage are going to take a look at my design and if they like it they will certainly vote, thanks for the cue mitelsantiago..

There are things on DBH’s FAQ page an submission page that do need revised, but that’s why this thread is here. So that until they get around to changing those pages, this will make it known that spamming will hurt your chances of being chosen as a winner.

Just let your artwork speak for itself. If people really think it is worthy of a print, they will vote for it without you having to ask them to.

designs are picked based on how popular they are (not just votes but comments as well and who the votes come from) and more importantly the quality of the design, how likely they are to sell well, and how much they would cost to print. an excellent one colour design with a lot of good comments and votes will probably get printed sooner than an ok design with a lot of votes and empty comments thats a lot of colours.

so they give everyday, a prize for shirt of the day… Do they announce that?

Bohemiantoe, I agree that part of the rules should be rewritten. It puts way too much weight on the votes, who really aren’t that important for choosing the winners. Many people seem to believe that you win because of votes (pretty much making this a popularity contest) and are surprised when they don’t win when they have lots of votes. Then some of us go tell them that votes won’t make them win, and sometimes the artist gets defensive thinking they’re just jealous (I mean, the rules seem to say votes makes you win, why should I believe this dude) and then poop slinging everywhere.
Now I have nothing against making your friends vote, they’re potential customers which is good. I just prefer promotion external to DBH (as in other sites, such as facebook, twitter, etc, or friends, or other things) than seeing the DBH forums and profile pages flooded.
Once spamming starts it’s hard to stop, and other people see the ones doing it and think “if they do it I can do it too” and then more and more people do it. I can’t remember which contest it was, but there was a contest when more than half the first forum page was spam. So I’m glad people are making sure that won’t happen again.

Announce what? The shirt of the day? It’s in the front page: http://www.designbyhumans.com/
That’s why the shirt there changes every day. The artist recieves $500 USD and $250 DBH store credit, more if they attain Shirt of the Week status (most sold shirt of the week gets it I think, I’m not sure). More info here: http://www.designbyhumans.com/win/contest_rules_and_prizes

OmarO hits the nail on the head. If comments asking for votes are encouraged then that’s all we’ll see. It used to be a lot worse before this topic was posted. When DBH tells you to go tell your friends and family, I think they mean outside of DBH, not within it. They want you to bring them new customers. There’s no point in asking for votes here because we already look at the subs and vote on what we like. Yeah there are 70 something pages of subs, but you only need to look through the first few to see new subs. Nobody on page is 58 is going to be commenting you asking for a vote, so there’s no reason to think you won’t see a submission unless someone links you. But you know, I get it, and I don’t blame anyone if they’re not obnoxious about it. I thought that’s how it was when I got here too.

i got accused of spamming the other day and my post in the forum was removed, i did genuinely press save twice, i run on bt internet in the uk and its slow as hell and i’m impatient lol. as my post was just letting people know who comented on my design when in progress it was out there i was a bit peeved by some comments, but on reflection after reading what thestray said i did technicly spam, but it was not intended.

Circusofmisfortune next time just update the thread that showed the progress (either by making a new post or editing the thread, both send the thread back on top I think); people wouldn’t have been as bothered by that (as far as I know) since they could see the progress thread and not just the promotion part.

my browser has doubled posted before, don’t know why maybe I’m a heavy handed mouse clicker – but it lets me delete one, Circus – hope that info helps.
