Q: The Philippines seems to be a melting pot of design talent in recent years. What’s going on, are the youth of the Philippines just very creative or do the schools encourage design as a vocation?
A: Yeah we see a lot of Filipino talents recently making awesome art both traditional and digital media. We don’t honestly know what are the factors affecting this kind of force. Maybe the exposure in internet and the information feed is the main factor. Though Filipinos are very creative in nature long time ago, The exposure and the technology nowadays are reinforcing more to create and appreciate art.
Q: So how does it feel to be 4th on our Most Printed Designers list?
:) A: SUPERCOOL!
Q: Let’s talk a little about your art, would you say you are trying to drop subtle messages with your art or do you just draw what you think looks interesting?
A: Designing and illustrating are what we love to do. Some works are purely designing and some we put a message to it. An abstract works also interest us because it opens different interpretation for different viewers.
Q: You have a good eye for composition and using parts of a graphic shirt others may ignore. Is this intentional?
A: Thanks! Yeah we intend to do it in all our designs. :) .
Q: What is your favorite Nicebleed DBH tee shirt and why?
A: A Mad Beast. Love the design, placement and how big it is in the shirt. Even though we have no copy of that one! :( Just by looking at it on the site. Reprint please! I will buy five or ten of it! :)
Q: Where does the name Nicebleed come from? It’s really not nice to bleed at all.
A: It really isn’t nice to bleed at all. :) We played a lot of Counterstrike Source then. It was my name nosebleed then later developed to nicebleed. :)
Q: ‘Extinct’ has been your most popular graphic tee, can you tell us how this design came about and how you designed it?
A: Yeah I think that design is perfect for the tee. We actually use a photo on that design. Edit and play with filters and then place on the shirt mock up and then think again to add the lower part to have a base on the T.Rex head. Adding some elements like birds, trees and dripping splatters to complete the process. Basically it’s a twist and turn on Photoshop editing.
Q: I see you were a judge in a design contest last September, how was that and would you like the opportunity to do it again?
A: Yeah I think that was the 1st Philippine Graphic Design Awards. Graphic Design is still a young industry here and I love the chance to be able to help
inspire the younger designers. I’d love to do it again.
Q: It seems The Philippines is a hot spot for design right now, does it feel that way to you personally?
A: In terms of the t-shirt contest circle definitely! There’s a lot of talent here. We just don’t really get a lot of chances to shine internationally.
DBH is great because it opens doors to guys like and the younger up-and-comers.
Q: Finally, if you had to be one of the following which would you be and why; Zombie, Vampire, Werewolf or Unicorn?
A: Immortality and Hypnotic mind control of the vampire. ;)
