The Master of the Brushes, Studio8Worx
Studio8worx is a designer you should all know by now, this year he has made a huge impact here at DBH. He ranks amongst our top designers and has more SOTW/M than we have had hot dinners. He has tested our printers and triumphed with sales numbers. Studio8worx let me into his head for long enough to probe around and ask some questions. Read all about this young mans rise to the top. Ladies and gentlemen please welcome, Studio8Worx!
Q: For the few people who do not know you that well let’s begin with the obligatory where are you from and how did you find DBH ?
A: Hello Humans!, let me first say Thank you guys for believing in my talent and for your support. And to you Wotto, for giving me this opportunity to share a little bit about myself, the real Francis Manansala Arcega aka Studio8worx. I’m originally from Manila, Philippines but have been living and working here in HK for 10 years now.
I did an interview with Jed Garcia and was asked the same question, about how i find DBH. Like i said, It was through a magazine i was reading while i was in Manila and an article about CT caught my attention, visited the site he mentioned, which was DBH obviously, signed up, submitted my first artwork and the rest is history.
Q: You are one of the most printed t shirt designers at DBH and recently you have had a slew of excellent prints. Tell us how you consistently produce well executed designs? What is your motivation?
A: Being recognized as such and be in line with other great, talented artists and have people patronize your designs is really an honor, and that is what motivates me, apart from the financial perks of course, hahaha…
which i share mostly to my family whom i love very much.
Q: Which of your 8 t shirt designs is your favorite and why?
A: All of them actually are pretty good, but what stands out to me most is Thunderbird. One reason is because it gave me my first SOTM, and also because it was the first shirt that made me establish my style.
Q: I find lots of your work very bold, vibrate and kinda in your face. Do you want the wearer to be the center of attention when they wear your t shirt designs or do you simply follow your artistic heart?
A: I think BOTH. I want people staring at my shirt design and ask themselves “Where the hell in this world he bought those Cool and Awesome shirt from? “ That thinking drives me to create an art which also express my mood at that moment and my creativity at the same time.
Q: Could you sum up your work in one word and a sound?
A: One word? BUSY. I’m not into minimal designs obviously, hahaha. A sound? hhmmm….kaBOOM!
Q: Let’s talk about your art. Your style is instantly recognizable and stands alone but remains very appealing. Was this intentional or was it more through the process/tools you use in your work?
A: I wouldn’t say it’s intentional. I call myself a risk-taker when it comes to my designs. I set myself no limitations, whatever comes to mind, the instant flow of ideas plus the availability of tools always makes it easy for me to put my ideas into canvas.
Q: You own many DBH tees, which artists make you want to purchase their graphic tee and who is an inspiration to you?
A: I like
Wotto- very appealing and humorous style, once you have this shirt its like a magnet that attracts girls. that’s why my wife dont want me to purchase wottos shirt hahahaha just kidding : )
CollisionTheory- He is the MAN. I call him the Master of the Universe obviously because he set the trend of this kind of style.. moon, universe, earth.. I salute you, Man!
Mathiole- watercolor is my favorite medium so the way he executed those washed effects were beautiful.
Casajordi- love his style coz i love surrealism.
Jimiyo and Hydro74- love and respect through their art.
Theres a lots of artists that id love to own one or two of their shirts like Dzeri, Yonil, Jublin, Nicebleed, Zerobriant, j3concepts, Etc but i guess i have to earn a lot more $$$ to buy their shirts. : )
Q: What kind of technical set up do you have. What is your process?
A: A macbook pro and my intous4 plus papers, pencils and erasers always come in handy.
I don’t exactly have the same process. There are times whenever an idea hits me, I sketch, scan, then photoshop. Other times I just doodle on my computer with my tablet, trying to experiment and let my hand do it’s wonder, (Wonder Twins Power Activate!) haha.
Q: If you got to the top of the ‘Most Printed Designer’ chart (very likely) on DBH how would you celebrate?
A: : Oh man, that’s a hard question to answer, hahaha. I guess if and when that time comes, I’ll ask my wife and my kids to come and visit me here in HK so we can celebrate together. wine and dine my wife, the works! winks
Q: Finally let’s hear about a project you have in the works or maybe a story/shout out before we part.
A: OK, a shout out. DBH you are too Awesome! Thank you thank so much guys for this great opportunity. and to those humans who patronize my art, shell out their hard earned money to buy my design, Thank you guys so much! Im not a great artist but I always have the faith and the belief that I can do it. I’m not here solely for the money or the prestige but I love it that I get to express my artistic side and get recognized at the same time. Peace y’all!
